Hello my loves! You may or may not be following me on social media, if you are you will probably be aware of my huge love for NYX! They’ve recently finally given us Hull folk a shiny new counter in Boots which we were previously lacking. It’s actually changed my life (not to be over dramatic) and I am over the moon! In celebration of this I thought I’d write a post about my current collection and why I love them so much.
I’ll start with lipsticks as I have a few and they’re my go to choices! I have the Liquid Lingerie in two shades – ‘Beauty Mark’ and ‘Embellishment’ and they’re my most worn lip colours. I find them so easy to grab day to day to go with any outfit or make-up look. ‘Beauty Mark’ is a semi dark brown and ‘Embellishment’ is a sort of dusty dark lilac shade. I love the formula, they’re so soft to apply and dry to a matte finish, which isn’t too drying to the point of flaking. They also have my favourite of all the applicator wands as it’s flat and I find you get fuller lip coverage than with some of the others.
I then have the Liquid Suede in the shade ‘Stone Fox’. It’s a super dark grey which actually in some lights looks sort of blue. I kinda thought this would wash me out but I am ALL ABOUT the dark lip so I grabbed it on a whim one day and thought I’d give it a whirl. It was the perfect colour for Halloween, but I have worn it on days where I’ve been feeling like sporting a super dark lip, as I don’t actually own a black lipstick any more! The Liquid Suede collection lippies are described as a cream lipstick rather than a liquid lipstick on the packaging, however the only real difference I’ve found is that it’s slightly thicker when you apply it, giving your lips a really great colour instantly, without having to build it, which I often do with the previously mentioned shades for a darker colour. They have some uh-maaazing shades in this collection and I am very tempted to get myself the super bright blue to test out.
I then have two very different shades of purple, one is from the Soft Matte Lip Creme collection and one is from the Cosmic Metals collection which I’m super in love with at the mo! The Cosmic Metals colour looks as incredible on as it does on the shelf, I went for the shade ‘Celestial Star’, although it took me a while to decide because they’re all beautiful. I had so many lovely compliments whilst wearing this for a gig and night out in Leeds recently, so thank you so much! I never thought I would be a fan of the sparkly, glossy lip as I’m usually all about the mattes but I think these are so bloody sassy and perfect for a night of drinking and dancing. The Soft Matte shade I have is basically the perfect dark purple. I don’t find myself reaching for this one as much as I prefer the formula of the Liquid Lingeries. I also find you do need a couple of coats to build to the right shade but these are so creamy and soft and they smell incredibly like marshmallows! I find all of these lipsticks a super comfortable all day wear, with only the Cosmic Metal needing a lot of top up, but I expected this due to the sheen finish.
Moving onto my primer and setting spray, I fell in love with this brand the day I bought my Photo-Loving Primer and knew I had finally found THE ONE. I’d tried so many in the past that I hadn’t got on with and so I knew it was love at first time when I applied this one. It’s super mattifying and gives your skin the smoothest pre-foundation finish. I then use their Matte Finish Setting Spray after my full face application and it helps to lock my make-up in all day. I’m planning to test out the Dewy Finish one the next time I pop by and see what sort of difference this makes and whether I might have a bottle of both on the go to use depending on what sort of look I’m going for. This spray has already lasted me a few months and I’m only half way through the bottle so I’ve found it amazing value for money, especially in comparison to some of the others available at the moment. I actually have their Highlight and Contour Pro Palette on it’s way to me at the moment, I talked about why I’ve been angling (hur hur) after that HERE in my Beauty Wishlist. I’m so excited to use it as I’ve heard great things and I LOVE that you can replace each individual colour within it, a little like the Mac eyeshadow palettes. We all know you never use every colour in a contour kit equally.
NYX are totally cruelty free and very reasonably priced for the wonderful quality. I find they have a great selection available, especially in regards to the range of colours. I’ve recently found a few brands disappointing in terms of shades of lipstick as I like to be able to get hold of bold colours, not just another shade of pink, where are your greens and golds at, guys!? If you’ve never used NYX before, pop into Boots the next time you’re shopping and grab yourself a lipstick or eyeliner and give them a whirl, I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed!
THANK YOU if you’re still reading this mega beauty essay, I’m such a good rambler, especially when it comes to make-up. You can find all of the products I’ve mentioned available on the NYX website HERE. I also find them to be brilliant on social media, if you have any questions or queries or just wanna show ’em the love, they’re always quick to respond. Top marks for engagement!
