I’m armed with a coffee sitting at my kitchen table on this bright, crisp Thursday morning super excited about this post! I adore Primark. Honestly where else can you walk in needing absolutely nothing and walk out with £50 worth of stuff you quite clearly did need!? They’re absolutely killing it on the high street right now, what with their Disney collections which have sent people a little crazy and their A/W pieces currently rolling into stores nationwide. A few weeks ago I came across this post by Lima at Fashionicide whilst scrolling through Twitter. As a huge lover of scents, candles, perfumes, reed diffusers and JO MALONE I instantly clicked onto her post to find out more about this. It was the first I’d seen or heard about this collection and I instantly knew I needed to get my hands on it.
Skip forward a month or so after a few disappointing trips to my local Primark, I was visiting a friend over in Doncaster when we went into the Primark there. I did my usual “please don’t let me buy loads of stuff that I don’t need”… THAT WENT WELL. Big up to the Donaster Primark for their store layout, especially their beauty section, it was very well laid out and easy to navigate meaning I spotted what I needed instantly. Unfortunately they didn’t have everything available in every scent so I basically grabbed what I could of what I wanted. Available in each scent is hand soap (£4), hand cream (£4), mini hand cream (£2), 20ml perfume (£3), 100ml perfume (£8), reed diffuser (I’m unsure of the price of these) and room spray (£4). My all time favourite Jo Malone scent is the Lime, Neroli and Basil and so I was itching to get my claws on the Mandarin and Basil one from this collection. I had to settle for two of the smaller perfumes as that was all they had in stock, as well as a hand soap. I could have honestly gone crazy but tried to limit myself a little as hand cream is something I really don’t need at the mo.
Okay so what are they like? Well, as a huge lover of Jo Malone but also a person who cannot afford to have a constant stock of Jo Malone on my vanity, let me tell you these are incredible! I’ll start with the perfume as I feel like that’s the star buy of the collection. It’s an eau de parfum rather than an eau de toilette so the scent is really long lasting. I’ve actually worn it to work a couple of times this week and still been able to smell it at the end of a long ten hour day which I think is amazing! I don’t get that with some of my much more expensive perfumes like Vera Wang. The scent is strong and citrussy when first applied and is a really stand out, refreshing smell. I’ve already had quite a lot of compliments on this already and I love the fact I can smell it lingering on my skin. Perfume definitely isn’t just for others to smell!
As I bought the collection of mini rollerballs I’ve been able to test out every scent from the range and they are actually ALL smells that I would wear. The Amber Noir is a lovely deep evening scent which would be great for a nice meal out somewhere or if you were heading for a night out and wanted to change it up, as the other scents are lovely and fresh. I also love that this one comes in a black bottle, making it even more sleek and stand out. I even like the smell of Absolute Vanilla and I’m usually not a fan of anything super sweet, however it’s not overbearing in the slightest. Pomegranate and Black Tea is another wonderful Jo Malone dupe and again smells lovely and fruity, really nice for day to day wear.
I’m always a fan of minimal packaging, this looks lovely in the white box with just a little silver border detail, the name of the product and collection and the little image associated with each scent which makes it nice and easy to distinguish each one on the shelf. The only thing I’ve found about the actual bottles is the manufacturing is a little shoddy as the silver lids don’t quite twist straight onto the rollerballs leaving you with a wonky lid, but honestly for the price it’s not something I’m too fussy about!
I think my only qualm with this gorgeous collection is that it took me so long to hunt it down, it really doesn’t seem to be very widely available so this is just me begging Primark to please stock it in every store and KEEP it as a regular line. I even popped into my local Hull store today to try and get the bigger bottle of Mandarin and Basil but the collection was nowhere to be seen.
Have you managed to get your hands on any of this collection? If so what are your thoughts? Leave me a comment below.
