We’ve all been there! The sorta day where you realise, once again, that adulthood is bloody hard, stressful, expensive and downright unfair a lot of the time. The days every single appliance in your house seems to have broken down, you’re full to the brim with a stupid head cold, there’s no good food in the fridge and all you want to do is curl up in a ball with a tub of Vicks vapour rub and your Pua teddy. Cue my what I do when I’m feeling down post. 🙂
Crack out my Friends DVD box set. This usually lives on the little TV cabinet beside our bed in our room and we pop it on at whatever point we’re up to before bed. However when I’m super sad, I scoop it up, cradle it in my arms and bring it downstairs for the ultimate feel good binge sesh. If I’m in the sort of mood where I know I need a good cry, I might choose Grey’s Anatomy instead, but usually I need a giggle and Friends never ever ever fails to make me AT LEAST crack a smile, even when I’m in the very worst of moods.
Raid the fridge for chocolate. Of courseeee I should probably be heading to the fruit bowl, but let’s be real alright, I head straight for the chocolate. Biscuits can often do, but I’m onto even more of a winner if the good stuff is in, Dairy Milk or a good ol’ Galaxy caramel sharing block! Add a cuppa and I’m usually half way there to feeling slightly better about my woes.
Run myself a Lush bath. Not that I don’t have enough of these anyway, but I try and save my favourite bath bombs for when I’m feeling down or slightly worse for wear. There’s an Intergalactic and an Experimenter in there for such occasions. I also like to either watch a bit of YouTube that I know will cheer me up or pick up at one of my favourite parts of Harry Potter. My mum has sticky notes marking her favourite parts of her Outlander books and I’m genuinely considering doing this with my HP’s, so that when I’m feeling crappy and crabby I can delve straight in at the best bits.
Let out my inner Disney geek. I have Disney playlists, compilations saved to Apple music and a wide array of DVD’s, so whether I’m in a slump and need to kick myself into gear because I’m heading out or actually do have the time to curl up and watch a couple of films I am armed and Disney ready for the down days. I also actually end up spending a lot of time watching vlogs, old parades and making myself even more sad and bitter by searching Walt Disney World prices.
Cuddle the kitten… and Chris and all of my you-probably-think-I’m-too-old-for-all-of-these Disney plushes. Because even when I’m acting stubborn and angry I always need a lil cwtch. Forcing the cat to love me by luring her in with soft blankets and my dressing gown is a speciality of mine.
A combo of the above five is usually pretty winning to vastly improve my mood. What do you guys like to do to perk yourself up on the days where adulthood whacks you square in the face? Let me know!
